Default House Broken...Now not?

We have a 12 week old Golden retreiver puppy. He was doing amazing up until afew days ago. He was going to the door and letting us know when he had to potty and he was waiting to be put on his tie out and then going to relieve himself. Now suddenly he is no longer telling us if he has to go and is just going. Also, this is very strange, we let him out and immediately take him to the door which is only 5-6 ft from his cage, now he is relieving himself right by the door or on the front porch, tonight he actually did it on the front porch on my husbands foot while sitting down and then 20 minutes later right in front of the door. We are clueless. My last golden was so easy and I have no idea what to think of this very odd behavior. Everything was going very well for several weeks! What do I do and why is he doing this. It almost seems as if hes doin it on purpose! HELP

Take him to the vet and have him checked for a urinary tract infection. I had the same problem with a pup last year. He had a UTI.

No dogs dont do that.

Think back what happened prior to this happening. Did the dog have a fright, did something happen, did someone shout at him when he had an accident? Dogs are strange creatures they dont usually change behaviour for the sake of it, and it is usually something that has triggered this off.

Is the dog going out for walks?

If you know roughly when the dog goes to the toilet take him out a bit earlier, perhaps he is holding on too long and cant wait any longer BECAUSE he is worried he will do it in the house.

Or like the other poster has said he might have an infection.

Is he neutered, if not get him done as hormones can have an odd effect on dogs.

If your really worried get him to the vets. Maria

Sometimes it's as simple as the owner's ignorance. Maybe his signs aren't as obvious and if it isn't a UTI or a change in his surroundings, then it could be that you just aren't seeing the signs as overt as they used to be. Sniffing is a sign. When he starts sniffing, take him out. Don't give him full run of the house, leash-train the dog. That's the easiest method. Always keep him on a leash that you can hold onto and that way you are forced to see the dog sniff and/or give other signs. If nothing medical is going on, i'm going to say that maybe its just owner ignorance, and that's still not your fault. I suffer from it quite often with my puppies. Sometimes i get caught up or the dog takes a drink when im not watching and then im not really let it. It's like a secret and you don't hear the whole thing so you're kinda in the dark about it. Just be more careful, get his urine checked at a vet or just keep a better eye out. Think, in about a year it'll all be over
