Hello. We have a 14 month old Coonhound that we have adopted. We worked on getting her to like her crate, and she goes in with no problem, even hangs out in there while we are home. Through the night she is quite and relaxed in there and stays laying down until we open it...very calm. There are times that we crate her through the day (random, and mostly not for more than 2 hours) and I have no idea what she does...she is calm when we leave. When we come back she will be panting and her bedding is ripped up, and tonight it was wet, but not pee???? She takes a while to settle down after we return home. This does not happen every time. Last week we were camping and left her at the site, tied to a tree with her crate right there and when we left (to go a few sites over) she would just lie in there and wait for us to come back - she was a little worked up at first but got used to the routine very quickly.

Any ideas as to what could be up? Or what I can do...I am mostly concerned that she is getting so worked up...mind you we also only have so many blankets!

I've been thinking about this one, and though I don't have an answer/solution for you, I do have an idea for finding out more... set up a video camera in front of her crate (not too close, we don't want to make her paranoid), to record her behavior while you're away. Maybe this will give you more clues about what is going on with her/her state of mind, so you can begin to help her.
