Default Keep the Puppy?

My dog Mina had a litter of seven puppies back in June. I've found 5 of them a home already, and was considering keeping one of the two that are left. Not out of pity or anything, but becasue I love his personality, he's just like his mom when she was a puppy. The only problem I see to this is that the puppy is male, and I've never owned a male dog before, and I'm not sure if there is a lot of difference between raising a male, and raising a female.

Also, my mom keeps telling me that when the male gets older he'll try to mate with his mother. I think that's highly unlikely, as nature has a way of preventing the unnatural, and I'm also planning on having my dog spayed as soon as my vet says she's completely recovered from the puppies.

Anyway, I want to know what you guys think about this, and if you have any advice for me. Is it a bad idea for me to keep the puppy?

I don't see any reason why not BUT do get your dogs fixed. They would mate. Dogs try to mate with your leg remember?

To my understanding if a female goes into heat she'll attract any male that can smell it. Regardless of size difference, breed or even if they're related. So if you don't want a pregnancy, isolate the female or get her spayed.

As far as keeping the puppy.. Entirely your call Males IMO tend to be easier to raise and generally make better companions to that of females. Of course, there is an exception to every rule.

Good luck.

I forgot to comment on the male-female question. I've have both. I have heard that females can be more territorial, but I don't know for sure.
What I do know is that females don't HIKE or HUMP. I think females are easier to house-train. Well actually I think females are just smarter in general. hee-hee-hee.

BOTH are equally loving and great.

Generally this is true. However, I have had a female that humped her toys and if the opportunity was present, one's leg as well.. Obviously hiking her hindleg was not an issue.
