My dog started acting really weird today. She all of a sudden started following me around the house and she was startled easily. She would start looking around like there was something following her. Ive never seen her act like this. Shes usually not so jumpy but today shes portraying some strange behavior and I have no idea what is wrong.

Your dog doesn't normally follow you around the house? She might be in pain or at least some discomfort. Dogs try to "tell" us they need help by acting in manners to get our attention. FOr instance, if one of my dogs needs to go out urgently, she'll run up to me but wont let me pick her up. Each time I reach for her, she'll back away. When i get up off my arse , she'll lead me to the back door to have me open it. Your dog could have been trying to tell you that he has a hurt. A vet check would not be a bad idea of this is not normal behavior for your dog.

Let me pose some obvious questions here.


First, did anything at all out of her regular routine occur that could have resulted in this uncharacteristic behaviour? Did something startle her to put her into caution mode? Was she introduced to someone new that she's uncomfortable with? Was she scolded for inappropriate behaviour? Sometimes a dog will react timid after being disciplined, especially if it's typically well-behaved and seldomly scolded. You could also do a quick look over on her. Dogs will behave differently when they're not feeling good. If you can't pinpoint anything by checking her over, I recommend calling up your vet and perhaps making an appointment to have her examined. If you notice that she is refusing food and water intake, definitely get her into the vet and have her checked.
