It sounds to me like you know what you're doing-- and you're doing great! Just give it more time and practice. One thing you should know, though, is that labs (you said your dog is a lab mix?) are traditionally hunting dogs-- they have a very strong sense of smell, and a strong urge to follow any scent they pick up. When you get your dog outside, all kinds of different scents are drawing her, making her excited, making her just want to take off running (does she put her nose to the ground a lot of the time as she wanders?). I have a hunting class dog as well, and at first, right after I say, "okay, let's go," she puts her nose on the ground and starts zig-zagging around right off the bat. Some might disagree with me, but for the first 10-20 minutes of our walk, I just let her do this. She will potty quite a bit too. But then, after she's done her sniffing, the walk is for me. She settles into it, and we can start walking the way I want to. It might go against what all the experts say, but this method really works for me, and keeps me sane! (I don't let her drag me, though. She gets a correction when she pulls. I've found an anti-pull harness works really well for that. Some people like the "Gentle Leader.") Have fun, and remember: You're doing great. Keep up the good work!
