Default Feet on the Table

Rocky got in trouble tonight. I took him to my parents' house. My sister was over. She, my mom, and I were seated at a table (counting coins, LOL). Anyhow, Rocky got so excited, he jumped up on the table between my mom and my sister. His toenails tore the tablecloth (plastic), and coins went everywhere ..... Sigh ..... I know he just wanted attention, but at 99 lbs., we can't have a big dog doing that. Any ideas (besides walking him ... he already had one today) ???

My dog too was being a bit of a pest, just a few minutes ago. It's the middle of the night here, and she should be sleeping. But since I'm up and being active, she has a hard time (she'll go to bed with me in a few hours). She already had a good long 50 minute walk-- I'm having leg cramps, so another is out of the question. I think she just wanted some attention, so finally I called her over to sit next to me on the couch, and we had a nice cuddle. Now she is finally settling down, and may go to sleep soon.

Just like with a very young human child, when a dog wants/needs some attention, we will get the best results if we can take time out of what we are doing at the moment and just give it to them-- a human might want a cuddle and a story or a game, a dog either wants a cuddle or a game. After they get their needs met, they will usually settle down and behave for a bit.

My suggestion would be to have him either sit or lay at your side untill he calms down. That way he can still be with everyone, but in a more relaxed way.

With all due respect, while I agree that this would solve the problem, for me that is just completely undo-able. I love my dog waaaaayyyy to much to ban him from my presence. We are a pack of 2.
