Default Caught In The Act

I was just talking to my hubby on the phone and he said earlier, he was going upstairs and he could hear weird, "wet" sounds (you know that wet smacky sound like when you stir maccaroni & cheese? i know weird but it's the best way I can describe it lol) and he gets upstairs and goes in the den and there is our male dog going to town licking the female dog's butt hole. (I'm sorry if I'm offensive or graphic.) They're both fixed - they came that way when we adopted both of them from the shelter.

This is the first time either the hubs or I have caught them doing this. Should we be concerned with this behavior or is it just dogs being dogs? (either way....ewwwww)

It's dogs being dogs, but I'd have my vet check the female dog's anal glands. They might be infected, or need to be expressed.

Ok vetgroomer, will do. I need to take her in anyway 'cuz she has such a BAD itching problem. Before I adopted her, her previous owner had taken her to the vet (same one I use) and he gave her an antibiotic and some other pill that I was to give her half of one every other day. Neither have helped and I feel SO sorry for her itching all the time. I sure wouldn't want to feel itchy all day. Hopefully he can give her something else that will work better. It's definately not fleas and even if I give her a bath with her itch soothing shampoo, it doesn't help. Poor girl.

Other than fleas, food allergy is a major cause of itching. Try changing her food to one with a totally different meat source, and no soy, wheat or corn. There are some with really unique meat sources, like fish or rabbit. I'd give one of those a try, and give it a good 6 months to see if it helps.

Great suggestion! Thanks! I will definitely do that....can't hurt! And my little Puggle, he'll enjoy it too.

Just an update, Charlie & I just got back from the vet this morning on her scratching. They upped her medications they tried on her before with stronger dosage and the doc took some skin scrapings and plucked some fur to do some kind of testing on that she said would take about 3 weeks or so to see what comes of it. She also said her anal glands look ok.

I'll post again about the skin condition after a few weeks to update. You've been so helpful to me & my Charlie - it's truly appreciated!
