Default zoey

zoey is scratching, well more like digging in her bowls, they are metal bowls. Even when water is in the bowl. Why? my husband thinks maybe she sees her reflection.

well i guess he used to scratched an object before, you should try training him in a place where your dog can't scratch anything

You can try and confirm your hubby's suspicion by replacing the bowl with one that doesn't reflect back. But if your dog is anything like a lab, she may do it because it's fun.

Is this a new behavior? If it is, you should have her in to the vet for a check up. Behavior changes often are the result of a medical condition.

Another thing to consider. If the weather has been cold and you've had your heat on, she could be getting a static shock from her metal bowls. Her digging could be the result of that. She's trying to figure out why she's getting a spark sometimes, and not others. Try changing to crockery bowls to see if that helps.

If changing the bowl doesn't work, then pick up the empty food bowl, at least, and put it away, out of sight. My dog often starts digging in her bowl, or at the floor under the pantry door because she thinks she needs a snack (her cookies are in the pantry). When she does this, I have to either distract her from her tummy with a toy or game, or I might have her earn a cookie.
