My Female Wants to Mate With My Other Female?!?
Help! I don't know what to do. I've never experienced this before.
We've had a female Poodle-mix for 5 months (since she was 3 months old) and just adopted a 9 month old minature American Eskimo female.
It seems that ALL my poodle wants to do is get the eskie's attention (by biting her legs, neck, face, etc) and then stick her butt in the eskie's face to hump her. Even stranger, the eskie DOES hump her from time to time, but usually just tries to get away from my poodle. Is this normal?? Will they grow out of it? Is there anything we can do to change this behavior? They have both been spayed within the past month.

I am no expert by any means, BUT....
A lot of dogs do this to show dominance.
Whenever you have a dog in your family, there is a pecking order.
Especially when you have more than one dog. Each dog NEEDS to know where they stand in the pack. You said you just adopted the minature American Eskimo. They are just figuring out who is 'bigger' than the other.
I'm sure it will stop whenever they figure out who is who in the pack.
Good Luck!!

Humping is very normal, even by female dogs. It's typically harmless depending on the dog's preference to hump or be humped. Whether or not the dogs cease the behavior depends on whether or not they find it reinforcing. The question, really, is do you find it embarrassing? If you don't, just watch them and make sure it doesn't escalate to other antagonistic behavior. If you do, simply interrupt the dogs by clapping your hands and walking between them. Continue walking to the fridge, and any of the dogs that follow, cue a sit and reward them with a food reward from the fridge. If you do this often enough when this occurs, you're likely to inadvertently train attention to you, and the humping may become exhausted.

Thanks for the replies!
It's not that I'm embarrassed by the humping. The Eskie doesn't even hump that often. I'm concerned with my poodle's constant urge to be humped. she used to play with toys, play fetch, chew bones, etc...and now all she wants is the Eskie to hump her, and she tries all day long. Of course, the Eskie gets irritated and tries to get her to stop (nipping at her), but usually just tries to get away from the poodle. They haven't gotten into a fight about it yet, but I'm afraid they might.

It will probably help if you get the poodle fixed too. She is the right age now to do it. {actually both should be spayed}

Is it possible that the the elder dog was spayed shortly after her first estrus? If so, it may also be possible that residual hormones are driving the behavior. In which case, it will likely subside with time.
