Default Newbie question

Questions about a 11 weeks old Pomeranian

#1 I make her sit before she gets to eat her food since I like to get the bowls in the right place. I notice she shakes a lot. Why is that?
#2 My dog refuses to go into strange places, is that normal?
#3 She barks at things when she is scared. Should I yell at her or let her be? She hates my RC car or strange items or places
#4 She can't run straight, is that normal?

Thanks

It is common for young puppies to have a lot of fears of the unknown. Do not yell at her if she barks;that will only compound her fear. Instead, either ignore it, or try to help her investigate by letting her sniff the item cautiously, to show her it is harmless.

And young puppies are not very coordinated-- their legs are growing faster than their brains, lol! (Particularly for the larger breeds) Instead, they tend to zig-zag all over the place.

Your puppy should grow out of these issues as she matures and learns to trust in your protection.

Teaching the dog to sit and wait until you give the okay to eat is good--how you do it may or may not be the reason for the shaking. The puppy is very young so don't expect absolute perfection--and give lots of affirmation about it doing things right...even if not perfect.

Your puppy is at the stage where fears can be set. You want to give the puppy lots of praise for being curious and checking out "strange new things" and ignore completely any "scared" behaviors. Don't yell at it! Don't punish it! Let's say that it is scared of a new toy that you bought. Set the toy on the floor and quietly watch the puppy. Do not force it to approach the toy. If the puppy barks or runs, ignore. If the puppy sticks it's nose in the direction of the toy--praise, reward, affirm! As it moves closer to the toy, continue to praise, reward, affirm it's choice to be brave. Do this with everything the puppy fears. Be consistent. Be calm. The puppy can sense your apprehension so if you get tense, puppy will get tense.
