Default Biting

HELP! I have a 10 week old half Lab half German Shepherd who likes to bite at everyone's feet. She also bites at our hands when we pet her. She chases us when we walk just to bite at our feet. She is a wonderful dog but my hands and feet can't take anymore. Is this just because she is a pup or could it be something else?

Default biting

I'm had the same problem with a 8 month old maltese which I got when she was five months old. She doesn't go for feet yet, but will bite when you pet her or pick her up some of the time now. I think it is a puppy thing and you'll have to train her not to bite. The situation improved when I started her in obedience training and she was around more puppies. The other dogs I have in my house are older and don't have as much patience for her. Good luck!

gotta get that handled asap- say firm NO BITE- I have done every thing from holding their mouth shut- to saying ouch -- ignoring and or handing an appropriate toy. They all learned a different way--but you gotta be consistant and dont play with them using your hands ever until they listen to no bite 100%- I try never to use my hands ever- accidents happen and they hurt

Default Biting problem

Puppies are very mouthy. I teach puppy classes and biting is always a hot topic.

Your dog probably has a high play drive and herding drives, and he is playing with and controlling you.

To fix this behavior, the first rule is you don't tolerate it, ever.
Your correction options include, nose bumping (an unpleasant bump on the nose for nipping), putting the dog in timeout for nipping, and ending the current interaction so the dog understands that nipping ends the game.

I'd use all of these if my puppy was nipping. Also, a good strong NO! in an angry voice, pared with immediately ending any interaction could get the message across.

Regardless of the reason for the behavior, it won't go away unless you take action. Yes they nip because they're puppies and it's natural for them, but they won't quit unless you make them quit.

Take a firm stand, insist on acceptable behavior now while you still have the size advantage. You don't want to be dealing with this issue when your dog is fully grown.

Default Help...

New at this site. I don't know what I am doing. How do I ask a question? Is it a thread or is it a post? What is the difference? I became a new memember a few minutes ago. I thought I posted a question but it is saying I have "0" threads/posts. When I posted a question it didn't allow me a title either. I could really use some guidence from here. I have a very concerning problem with my 8 month old rescue dog and don't know how or where to post my question...Please help me.

you should enforce to them that it's bad to bite and giving them alternatives whenever they start to bite is a good to follow advice.
