Default Dog barks constantly

Savitar is a 2 year old DDR German Shepherd. We love him, but he's constantly barking. At nothing too. He'll just randomly bark. and at our cat too. It's like he can't get enough Bark. We've tried it all to get him to stop but he's stubborn. Does anyone know what we can do to help him stop and to help us have some peace?

There was a lady in the obedience class I attended recently who had a sheltie that barked allot. Well, shelties are known for that. Anyway, she was trying a citranella collar. Didn't work. What did work was when the instructor grabbed the leash and gave a leash correction and a strong "NO, STOP IT". After several repeats, the dog sat quietly. Of course, the owner would have to follow up so the dog knows the owner feels the same way. Sometimes, dogs continue a behavior because we haven't let them know that we don't approve in a way that they understand.

Perhaps, you should keep a leash on the dog and when it barks, immediately and strongly correct. I'm not saying be cruel or mean but strong.

Sometimes, people can teach a dog to not bark by teaching it to bark on cue.

Well IDK WHY he is barking, but I do know that if you yell or anything like that he might think you are joining in... so what I would do is, whenever he is barking tell him quiet, and when he stops, give him a treat. Try to do this each time when the barking stops, hopefully he will get it down. I did this with the dog I had a while back, who was a pit/lab mix...he figured it out after a little while. I know how frustrating it can be, just try and be patient Good Luck!

Hey,

Make sure your dog is getting plenty of exercise - sometimes they bark because they are bored and this is often due to a lack of exercise...

Good luck!

Train your dog how to hush. There are times that they aer barking because they want to play or go out. There are some devices which gives a harmless spray or a high-pitched tone which distracts your dog from barking. You can try that one.

Default To Stop Constant Barking Dog.

Perhaps the most common reason for an excessive barking dog is that its just bored .

Dogs are like kids and like kids can show behavior problems which meet disapproval
but the dog like a child needs to occupy their time with worthwhile activities or,

they will find an activity like having fun barking-and when the dog decides that barking is
great fun and is unchecked, soon you have a dog with an excessive barking problem.

So make sure he gets the exercise and walking time that's needed. Give him plenty of
play time and don't let him be lonely.Remedying this neglect is all it takes to cure the
dog of excessive barking that will eventually drive you crazy and make your neighbors unfriendly.

To correct excessive barking that stems from boredom related causes, try picking up some toys
next time you’re at the pet shop. Chew toys are good, as are the toys which have a pocket in which
you can hide tasty morsels of food for him to discover.

Default don't worry

Try to teach him quiet.
Get's too annoying try to ignore it.
Maybe every once in a while you should check if he is actually barking at something, he has better ears, eyes, and nose than you do(remember).
But it is okay because our dogs do the same thing.

I've taught so many dogs to be quiet, it's become second nature. The first thing I do is teach them to "speak". Once I can make them bark on command, I start teaching them "enough", which means to stop barking.

To teach "enough" start by having the dog speak several times. Then say "enough" and shove something edible in his mouth. He has to shut up to eat it.

Repeat this several times, then say "enough" and wait. Chances are good he'll look at you, expecting to get a treat. If he does, give him a treat and praise him. At this point, you're almost there.

When he starts barking on his own, tell him "enough" and stick a treat in his mouth. Then ask him to speak, praise him, and say "enough" and wait a second before offering the treat. Gradually lengthen the time between "enough" and the treat.

This may sound like a lot of work, but it doesn't take a lot of time. They usually pick it up very quickly. It also might sound like you're rewarding him for barking, but remember, he has to shut up to eat the treat, at which point you praise him.

Like I said, I've used this to teach a lot of dogs to be quiet, and it works.

You can either do what vetgroomer did, i feel thats a great way to teach them.

Alternatively, you can get one of those dog collars....
