He knows my Daughter's car engine sound and also the sound when the alarm turns on after she pulls up to our driveway. Is it normal for a dog to be like that with someone it hardly comes in contact with? :-D
Thanks in advance for your replies,

I had a dog, Libby, who was an Australian Cattle Dog. She had shyness/fear issues one of which was of children--she preferred to keep them at a distance. Except:
Moved into a roommate situation. Roommate's godchildren spent each weekend with her. Three of them. Middle one was a six year old boy named Samuel who had some deep emotional hurts. Libby worshipped the ground he walked on. She would steal his underwear--could find the underwear in a pile of clothes (clear or dirty) -- and would take them to her sleeping spot and lay on them. She would sleep next to him.
Also, interestingly, she developed a habit of watching the neigborhood children go to the bus stop each morning. She had a spot on the stairs where she could sit and see out the window at the landing. From that vantage point, she could see the playground across the street and the bus stop. If we made the mistake of closing the blind at that window, she would go from bedroom to bedroom whining until we went and opened the blind so she could watch the children. She didn't want to approach those children but she wanted to watch over them.
Dogs are amazing. They develop attachments that we don't expect. There's no sense in fighting it.
