How is your dog with other dogs? Is every other dog their new best friend or are they a bit more selective in choosing their canine companions? my dogs not the best with others!

Sabastian only ever had one dog that he despised--it was a DAL with an attitude. Sabastian went into "let me at'm" mode at first sight or whiff of him. (Sabastian wasn't the only dog to have that reaction to that DAL. All the neighborhood dogs reacted the same way. I think the DAL put out major BAD ATTITUDE phermones or something.) Other than that dog, Sabastian is a Lover not a Fighter--greets every dog and human like they are his long lost bestest friend.

Tanner...he doesn't do so well with meet and greets with dogs. We having to teach him proper civilized behavior. ;-)

Hi!

Corky (cocker/golden retriever mix) likes all dogs he meets. In fact, backyard neighbor has 2 afghans and there is a chainlink fence between our yards. Every morning they have to greet one another and race along the fence. Now my pure cocker is another story---think he likes the afghans but has to bark and doesn't usually get too close--but he has his moments and will greet them once in a while.

yep...My dog was one of those dogs who gave out "bad dog" attitude! Dogs would cross the street to have a go at her and after awhile I realised she was doing something to cause these reactions but I could never figure out what. The sad thing was that she was a really great dog except for this 'little problem'. Even as a pup, when she had the opportunity to mix and play with other dogs, she always played too rough and it mostly ended in tears. It was like she did'nt understand the rules(poor love). The thing is that we socialised from the word go...Puppy classes, obedience and out and about...all the things that are ment to help and she was with her litter mates for over 10 weeks in a great situation before she came to us so I know she was never mistreated. Anyway, the only way to stop other dogs over-reacting to her was to train her not to make eye-contact as this seemed to be the trigger. The longer she could maintain eye contact with another dog, the more likely that dog would attempt to attack so a simple verbal command of "look away' in a calm friendly voice would allow her to do just that. She was very happy to obey....almost like she needed an excuse!

My bichon did not like other dogs. he was not afraid of them nor would he growl at them, he just did not want to be bothered. He would ignore them or walk away - he did not like dogs bigger than him or dogs 1/4 of his size.

My mixed breed puppy does not like other dogs until he gets used to them. Everyone in my neighborhood has dogs, so he sees them quite a bit. He was afraid of the golden retriever at first since she is like 3 times his size, but now he cries when I do not let him go near her. He is a baby so it takes him time to get comfortable, but when he does, it is hard to tear him away.

The only dog that Zoe has met is the one at the training class and she won't go near her if Porcha comes up to her at first she is real stiff and if porcha comes up again she growls and snaps. I don't know why I guess she was with many other dogs up until 3 months old. She is scared, when she saw the big dogs she peed and pooped she was so scared. She pees on any other human that has held her also. The trainer, my friends.
