HELP! Older dog peeing in the house since puppies arrival
Hi -
I am new, and not sure where else to look for an answer to this. I've had Biggie Smalls since he was 8 weeks old. He is 1/2 schnoodle and 1/2 yorkie. He has been an awesome dog, except for some territorial issues. He's been housebroken for a long long time now. We brought home a female schnoodle puppy (now 14 wks old), Bella, a week ago. For exactly a week, Biggie ignored her, growled when she came near him in bed - and basically refused to play with Bella. Then all of a sudden they were running and rolling, playing tug-of-war, etc. It was night and day. A day later, Biggie has peed in the house twice - HUGE puddles. We are taking them both outside every few hours, so I am not sure what the problem is. Bella, the puppy, is going potty outside, and she goes on the puppy pad a lot of the time. She has her fair share of accidents still, but we have all hard wood floor and have been cleaning each spot with clorox wipes. Either way, Biggie's accidents are not "a little pee here, a little pee there..." these are floods.
I know someone will say it's time to take him to the vet, but would there be any behavioral answer for this?
thanks

Maybe seeing the new dog going in the house is triggering it. My one dog while 90% goes outside she still uses a pee pad. Sometimes the other dogs will too (very rare)- my only boy is marking the new dogs toys- not floods like yours but spray so he is ticked she is here LOL...........
I have no idea with yours if they are getting along........I can see if they werent more so or maybe he hasnt quite made up his mind. I would use more than Clorox - perhaps an enzyme cleaner too even though wood ya just never know if a trace is left behind or in a crack.
A quick catch of pee to make sure no UTI would be good too.

On the behavioral aspect, it is possible that your dog is displaying dominance and marking his territory. This happens sometimes when a new dog is introduced into the household. Show your older dog that humans are the leader of the pack.

My yorkie was very agressive and showing such signs as your dog did when i introduced a new dog to his environment.
After a while, he got used to it.
I guess it takes some time..... But i've heard cases where they never adapt.........

He only did it that 1 day. He has been fine ever since. And here's a surely unanswerable question....why does my puppy walk over to the puppy pad - deliberately - most of the time...then other times, just stand in the middle of the floor to pee. I just don't get it. :?

Welcome to puppy world! It does take time for pups to learn how to be properly housetrained. I had 2 7 weeks old pups and I was going crazy! It seemed like they were doing the same thing, using the pad but then other times they seemed to forget all about it! I think it has to do with their short attention span, at this age their attention spans are soo short!
This is where you will have to intervene to kindly remind her where to go. It will not happen over night, rather it may take some time. Keep an eagle eye on her and hopefully she will soon get the message. My best wishes!

Hey, this sounds like a territorial issue, Biggie is marking his territory by peeing all over the house. You need to catch Biggie in the act and give a firm "No". Then take him outside. Try this and see if it helps...
