Default How much is play?

Our ten week puppy and GS get along ever so well together, even if the pup does grab GS's gums and chest. GS is very gentle with pup, but how much is playing? I dont' think they 'fight' much, but could this turn into a mean puppy? Sometimes I stop them, when I think it might turn into something too rough. The GS might hold pup's head, or grab her leg, but like I've said most the time they are just playing. The GS is not two herself yet.

Its a puppy thing. But yeah if it seems to be getting out of hand in your opinion, then make the play stop. If the puppy wont back off of the older dog, then calmly put her in a time out. (preferably a crate) Let her know that if playtime gets too wild, then playtime STOPS

Personally, I've always allowed my older dogs to discipline the puppies when they get out of control. I've never had an old dog injure a pup, although the pups have sometimes screamed like they were being killed when the old one takes them in hand... um, in mouth.

An older dog can teach a puppy manners better and faster than we humans ever can. My older Dachshund had his younger brother perfectly in hand in short order. When the pup got too boisterous, the older dog squashed him, smacked him with a paw, or growled/snapped at him. The pup got the idea in just a couple of days. Now they can play/chase/wrestle for hours without anyone getting mad.

Just don't let them play for a very long time without any supervision. Check on them once in a while if ever you are busy. They are normally playful and sometimes, dog play may seem rough to us. But if you feel that it is getting out of hand, separate them right away.

I don't think there is anything wrong.. Its hard to tell without seeing it, but I think what you are seeing is perfectly normal.
