Are you doing anything when he is whining? If you are he will keep whining until he gets what he wants.

Whining is a way of your dog to tell you whether he is upset, scared or in pain. Whining can also mean that your dog misses you (or someone/something from the neighbor) and that he wants attention. Avoid giving in to the whining behavior. If he keeps quiet, then you can spend more time with him, give him rewards. Keep training him that way so that your dog will know that you do not tolerate whining.

My puppy will whine nonstop if I'm not around but, someone told me it's all about tough love to get them over it, showing them no attention at all during these whining periods will eventually get through to him. I also praise him whenever he stops the whining for a few minutes, It def. means I need to be around him A LOT but I think it's worth it, I've seen some improvement. My puppy is required to be outside in the fenced in backyard for at least 3-4 hours a day depending on my workload he used to whine the entire time but now he will quiet down after an 1 1/2.

I know your situation is different, I'm just saying , don't show attention to the whining behaviour and he will learn!

Goodluck!

ps: my first dog so Im def no professional, just saying from personal experience.

thanks guys, he seems to do it all the time, suppose it gets worse when my other half goes to work, ive tried make noises when he does it so he stops like a loud sharp sound it does stop him but not for long, think its my fault as i used to cuddle and stroke him when he was doing it altho i try and ignore him now, and the vet cant see any medical reason for him doing it, guess i'll just ignore him and praise him when he isnt whining i'll do anything for however long it takes

As long as your dog isnt any kind of discomfort or pain you should just avoid a dog when they are whinging. Attending to your dog when it is whining will only make it worse... They end up training you.
