Exclamation Is something wrong?

I bought a 5 month old Shih-Poo yesterday. The breeder said he was the last of the litter. She had him in a kennel by himself, but alongside other kennels with other puppies (she breeds and crossbreeds Poodles, Shih Tzus, etc.).

I have had him with me for over 24 hours and he has yet to eat, drink, pee or poop. He sits in a corner (any corner) and won't move unless I move him, and that's usually to take him outside 3 or 4 times a day. When we go outside, he only sits or lays down or tries to hide under my car.

I've sat near him, petted him, brushed him, tried playing with him, left him alone, tempted him with dry and can food, chew toys and water. He won't do anything. He doesn't make a sound, either. No whining. No whimpering. Nothing.

I called the woman I bought him from this morning, and she said that because he was older and had gotten used to going between the kennel and the exercise room, it would take a while for him to get used to being away from it.

What worries me is how long can he go without eating or drinking? How long can he go without eliminating? He's VERY timid and scared to death of everything. He almost acts like he's been abused, but I don't think that's the case.

Any help would be appreciated. I need to take him to get groomed and his rabies shot, too. I don't want to make him more scared though.

Unfortunately this puppy was not socialized well at all. What you are seeing is the result. In most cases when a puppy or dog goes from a secure environment to a new one it is no different than when you move from one place to another. You are uncomfortable too until you adjust. It takes time and in this case a little more time. The pup should have been handled daily to become use to people and sounds like this was not done. It is going to take patience and time. Check with the breeder as what they fed the pup and provide the same food. See if there is any bedding you can get that was originally the dogs. The scent will help give the dog a sense of security.
Good luck.

I agree with the last post... but would also recommend a trip to the vet as many puppy mill dogs have a lot of health problems, worms, ear infections, etc. Your vet can answer the questions for you about how long without food, water, etc. Good Luck and keep us posted on the progress. Poor little guy, it's good you got him out of there!

I agree with the other posts. First, you must see to his health whether he has any problems that could have been possible affecting his appetite to eat. Since he is not yet used to his new surroundings, give him more time and introduce things one by one. Always have a clean water nearby in case he would want to drink. Don't worry though, that will soon pass. You just have to be patient.

maybe the dog still feel strange for the new home and not yet feel comfort.buat u must be patient, give the dog a lovingkindness and talk to him, it works . but if he still dont want to eat or drink, i think you should take him to the vet, for more safely
