HELP!! my puppy is so scared
Hi i just got my 12 week old miniature dachshund 2 days ago and he is scared of everything. Just wondering what i can do to make the transition easier. he still eats fine, but then he goes and tries to find somewhere to hide form me, and everything else. he won't leave his kennel on his own, im the morning i have to take him out myself so that he comes out for a pee. He used to live with the 6 dogs the breeder had so i thought he might be grieving the loss of them...? Everytime he meets a new person he shakes so hard. I'm just wondering how i can best help him into his new environment so any suggestions are welcome!!!

How about you sitting quietly on the floor with several treats in hand, maybe one treat or two in your lap and let your puppy come to you--Don't throw the treats to him and make sure he is hungry (not just been fed). Just sit quietly and let him approach you--ignore him but make sure he knows you have the treats! Let him take a treat or 2 from your lap and when he comes for the one in your hand--talk to him quietly and as he is going for the treat slowly pet him or if he will let you hold him in your lap and calmly pet him while he eats his treat. If he lets you--don't overdo and let him leave when he wants to. Next time maybe he will let you hold him longer--just keep trying and each time it hopefully will be easier. You haven't had him very long yet and he needs to get use to the change---Sounds like he has had very little human contact. I would think it would be wise to gradually let him meet your friends one at a time after he has started getting use to you first.

That is absolut correct! And don't forget: you have only two weeks for sozialisation. Things he does not learn during this period will fear him his whole life.

Hello
Did she used to come when you called her name? Anyway, she will get back to normal, but it might take some time. Pick her up to take her outside for potty training for now. Try to put some treats around your door. That might get her used to it again ( :
Thanks
Have a nice time a head.

adfraid of something
Is she acting that way from the start? Maybe she was afraid of something or someone when you brought her outside to make her so scared. I think you should bring her outside more often. Have outside activities until she'll be use to it and make her realize that there's nothing to be scared of outside.

This thread is nearly a year old and the OP only posted the once. I guess either the problem was sorted or he/she wasn't really that bothered.
