very interesting. thanks for sharing. i especially agree with the fact that bordom and lack of exercise can lead to separation anxiety. you's be surprised the wide array of problematic issues exercise can solve, or at least help minimize.

Nice article. My son's Golden Retriever puppy has extreme separation anxiety. She not only jumps onto the counter and table, she also pulls up the tiles from the floor. She's a beauty... but she's a real challenge as well. I will share this article with him, thanks.

Yea def. share it with him. How much exercise does the dog get? Golden Retrievers need A LOT of exercise which will eliminate a lot of behavior problems including separation anxiety, which may not be separation anxiety at all. Depending on the case, it could very well just be bordom/stir crazy because of lack of exercise. If the dog get plenty of exercise and is very calm while you're around and destructive while you're gone, then you know you've got a genuine case of separation anxiety on you hands. Let him know that he also needs to establish himself as the alpha n the pack/family. This way the dog will respect his boundries and understand it's not ok to jump up onto the table or the counter. you can find plenty of info on establishing yourself as the alpha with you dog with a simply google search or vid of youtube.

"Buster Disorder" could just be a whole new psychiatric illness!!! The DSM would have a "field day" trying to categorize it!
