The raw meaty bone is a good idea.. but I tried it and he's not that interested in it. I found that he REALLY likes peanut butter in the kong toy. How often can you give your puppy / dog peanut butter? Is once a day too much? I have given it to him twice and it keeps him occupied for 1-2 hours if not more if I freeze it in there. Any other ideas of what to put in the Kong toy if the peanut butter is not a good idea on a daily basis....
Thanks guys I really appreciate all the input.... He's still very mouthy and difficult to control when he's THAT hyper.... I'm hoping it doesn't last much longer. He's very pleasant when he's not hyper but he's usually just sleeping. I'd really like to have some "fun" time with him when he's actually awake!!! Haha.

Many puppies are naturally very hyper. just continue to exercise him as much as you can. try and design a customized exercise plan that helps him run off steam once he starts to get hyper. Even if you have to go out ever more often than you r know, even as little as 15 minutes of off leash running or at least a brisk walk is often enough to take the edge off. Since you can't walk him in the evening and he seems to get hyper I have several questions for you. Do you have a fenced in yard? could you possibly drive somewhere where u feel more comfortable going out at night? At the very least you could throw some toys or a tennis balls around the house. You could potentially invest in a used treadmill on Craigslist or something to use of him at night too. This may be a great time to utilize the kong also to keep him busy and hold off while he's tired during the day from exercise.
penut butter is fine for dogs and would be just fine to do once or even twice per day. Like u said, freezing it will make it last a lot longer. There are also many other recepies for kong toys. Here are some links where u can read about many different kong recepies;

*there r also a variety of different types of kong toys and sprays. See their official website for more info (first link I gave u).
Good luck!

Hmm would you consider using a dog repeller of some sort to train your dog to stop whatever he's doing? I know they work well for stopping a dog in its tracks. You could probably train it to stop behaving badly by turning on an ultrasonic device and then shutting it off. Just a suggestion. Hopefully it doesn't hurt the dog.

What exactly is it you are referring to? The collars that release a fowel smell?

I was referring to an ultrasonic dog repeller. It's not a collar, just a device you kind of point and turn on. Do you think it's wrong or harmful?

I think it's wrong. No different than a choker or pincher collar. This really hurts dog's ears and this doesn cause them to be very uncomfortable and in some sort of pain. Pain/fear is not the answer. This could also cause hearing problems/damage being that dogs have extremely keen ears.

Todd,
I think the above statement is boardering on inflamitry and just wrong. I have no experience with a 'ultrasonic dog repeller' do you? I have heard of things from this family like a divice that is supposed to make a ultrasonic noise when dogs are barking to train them to stop barking, I do not endorse them use nore do I equate them as being cruel as I have no experience with them, and don't have an informed opionion.
As for "No different than a choker or pincher collar." Used properly these tools do not cause pain or fear, where would you get this idea from? Anything can be abused/missused does'nt mean in the hands of someone that knows how to use them that they are painful or create fear. I believe on this forum on the last couple of days someone wrote of an accident while playing fetch with a stick. Should the game of fetch be stopped? I think not, but being prepared and carefull, but still accidents will happen.
Of the collars I have seen the most damage from has been flat leather collars, FWIW...
OK, an other collar I don't like are the ecollar's used with invisible fence, I knew before she moved away, a Phd. in animal behavior. She said the dogs brain while being shocked by these collars was unlike any kind of reaction that she had seen in a dog under any stress of any kind. I forget the name of the test, but like a real time MRI of the brain. This being said they may have a use when other things do not work, in the real world there is no absolutes.
lets not make this personal, just a discussion

Many people have different opinions on these things but this just happens to be my personal opinion.

Actually I am not looking for a fight, I am lookng for discussion. Todd said these ultrasonic things cause pain, I wondered how he came to that point of view? He usually posts links to stuff, I thought he might in this case to demonstaright his point, he doesn't want to so I guess it is the end of discussion. If I have a point of view that you question I don't mind being called out on it, perhaps I might be wrong or kinda wrong and clarity is a wonderfull thing, I am corrected all the time, I usually beat myself up over it, then be happy I am closer to the real picture. Really that simple, have a great 24 weekend.
On that note, Brits.... guess what we canucks are cellebrating this weekend?
Queen Victoria's Birthday yah the chick from the 1800's, jellous?...lol

Thank you for the Victoria Day good wishes. Are you also Canadian? If so, a happy Victoria Day to you too!!!
Frankly, I don't care much for Queen Victoria. I'd much rather we celebrated the birth of Elizabeth the 1st. She is a much more interesting historical figure (my favourite) in fact.
Queen Victoria was a boring old prude!!! However, since because of her we get a holiday, one can't really complain!

Thank you right back at ya...lol Yes I am Canadian I live outside of Guelph, ON.
I know almost nothing about Liz1, except she only had a baths 2-3 times in her life....stinky....eeeew But yesterday on the radio heard some interesting things about Vicky. While under her rain, UK military became the most powerfull military force in the world. She unified Europe by arrageing marriges of all royal familys in Europe to each other. One rummor that he said was she may have not been a Royal herself, but brought in to add to the gene pool because hemophilia had a strong hold on the British Royal family. She signed off on the birth of Canada as a Nation unto herself. And most importantly she represents the biggest beer drinking weekend of the year in Canada!!!

Every British Royal has come under similar scrutiny at one time or another. The "legitimate" state of every royal has come into question.
I think it was easier to hide stuff way back when...A Queen could disappear for months without a hair being raised...
I live in downtown Toronto - In the Annex district.
