Does your dog walk when your kids are with you?
What do you do and where do you go during your walks with rascal?

The 1st thing that entered my mind when I read your post was that it sounds like your pup wants to be with your kids--This breed is noted for being gentle and loving so prob. enjoys being with the kids right now more than going for a walk with you especially since your kids prob. haven't been out of school that long. You said it was okay before the kids were out of school so I take my hint there! I bet your kids play with him all the time? I don't know how old your kids are or if it would be a good idea for them to walk him. (Probably not!) A quote here from my breeds book: Although the American Staffie Terrier is a courageous and tenacious fighter if provoked, and needs firm, kind training to control this instinct, its basic temperment toward people is gentle and loving.
How about you and the kids (altogether) all go for walks with him and see if that makes a difference. If that works --you will prob. have to wait until the novelty of having the kids along wears down a bit or until school starts again! Gradually (I don't know how many kids you have)--get the walk down to just you and 1 kid---and then just you again. (Still take the treats with you).

You need to participate with activities involving the dog like the kids so you bond to the dog.
