Default Bichon cross

Recently the people I work for brought a new puppy to the store. I love lap dogs this one although I adore him, he can be the lap puppy from hell *L*. He's a Cavalier King Charles/ bichon cross. He looks like a bichon but acts very different. I think he is more spastic than a bichon and I imagine that he will have separation anxiety. He would probably benefit from living with another dog. He is an excape artist -very cunning and determined. If anyone goes into the room with him he bites our legs REALLY hard. I've had to resort to the water gun and flicking him in the nose--hoping that I can break him of this awful habit (I have bruises--someone else has holes in her pants ). I haven't yet seen a pure bred cavalier King Charles. Is this puppy just crazed or did he get that from his spaniel roots?? I think he's a lovable doll...with issues *L*

Has he had any kind of obedience training? If not, I'd enroll him as soon as possible. Not only will he learn to behave differently and have more confidence in himself, he will also be more secure in his relationship with you.

Well, he's just a pup of maybe @ 13-14 weeks. Fortunately he's young and can change ----put it this way--He shares his space with a tough little male Jack Russell. The Jack Russell is nothing compared to the Bichon cross as far as being an ankle biter. He's a real character. I think you are very right--he will need obedience training. What worries me is that his personality may call for an owner with a lot of knowledge and understanding about dogs like this....//I just recently got off work and I had to speak to the store owners about this. The other worker complained that he was biting her arms when she picked him up. It's like when I go in the room he is angry at me for leaving him and growls and bites at my legs. I held his paws. He cried and bit my hands angrily. I felt that if he was not worked with NOW, if he goes home with the wrong person he will end up getting put down. Does anyone have suggestions? We will be working on this issue.

Well, where has he come from and why do people breed these 'designer crossbreeds' in the US? I would suspect that if he is 13 weeks old, his problems stem from lack of socialisation & training and possible bad upbringing/rearing rather than breeding. Cavvies are known to be very friendly and great with kids, etc. Poor puppy

Well...I doubt that this puppy was a designer cross breed, but I assume it was from a kennel and I am assuming that accidents do happen *S*..although the puppy on my signature is a pugle. Our puppies are in large rooms grouped together. His best friend is the Jack Russel and a sweet dachshund about the same age. I've taken him out to play. Generally he is good if he's out and I've let children hold him. Maybe I will spend a little extra time with him. We normally don't try the lap dogs on leashes, but maybe I will give it a try.

Thought I would update since I have computer access at the moment. The bichon cross is still in the store. Funny for me to say that he is my most favorite and if I could take him home I would. He's still very bratty and he needs to be spoken to very firmly. He's an instigator, he'll pick on other dogs, he'll walk along side of me when I am in the room with his head held high like he's saying he's a big shot. I don't think there is a lot to be done about changing him. It would be nice if his biting would come to an end. We're working on it....I tried to trim his hair...NEVER MIND!
