Default Can't figure it out

Ok as a trainer seldom do I ever ask a behavior question but Seigi has me baffled on this one...he has a compulsion for constantly licking my couch and the throw pillows...He'll stop for about 10 seconds when I tell him to "leave it" and then he's right back at it...I can spray it with the Bitter Apple and he still does it....It's a micro-fiber couch if that makes a difference...Any ideas guys?

Dogs have a natural attraction to salt ie: perspiration. Even though often we do not feel we are perspiring, the skin is doing so often leaving residue that a dogs scent ability is able to gather with that they will lick an area that has any residue. I have dealt with this for years. It does make for a damp spot though when you go to sit down and do not see it first.

Thanks Yogi that makes total sense considering when we've been sweating he licks us to death...I never would've thought about it as far as the furniture goes..

Once again you are the wise one!

That's interesting! My dog licks the couch too. She also likes to lick clothes (I can't leave my dirty laundry on the floor, or she'll lick it for hours on end).

Is that why your dog's name is Skivvies?

Hahahaha!

Skivvies is my nickname actually, but it'd make a good nickname for Tiffany. She always goes on.....................panty raids. She loves to pick up underwear in her mouth and run around the house with it. Fortunately she hasn't done this when I have people over!

I seriously thought Skivvies was his dog's name. I couldn't imagine a human wanting to be called that.

Hey Luna! Hope you didn't misunderstand my words here---I didn't know at that time whether Skivvies was the dog's name either! I just get/got a kick out of your quick wit! Made me laugh!

Well, naming a dog Skivvies would be hilarious, especially if the dog can't stay out of the smallclothes drawer.
