Default When you have two dogs...

Hi Everyone,

Out of curiousity, I was wondering what everyone's trick is if you have two dogs. Does anyone have two dogs and experience trouble walking both of them? Do both dogs bark a lot? Or is one more dominant that the other?

What would you recommend to make both dogs behave and stop tangling the leashes!

Thanks,
Cassie

At one time I had two dogs and I used a coupler so I only had to have one leash which kept them from getting tangled. It helps if both dogs walk well on a leash.

I agree, you could try using a coupler as this will keep the dogs right next to each other instead of on 2 long leashes. With a coupler they will also learn that if they want to sniff something on the other side of you, that the other dog has to come with him since they are connected. Your dogs will learn that they have to sort of work as a team to walk with the coupler.
It also helps if you keep the leashes shorter.
I can walk 4 to 5 of my dogs on leash at once but thats only because they all walk well on a leash.
What I usually do is I will put the loops of 2 or 3 leashes on one wrist and take up some slack in those leashes and hold them in my hand. Then I will put the other 2 leashes the same way on my other hand. You could try the same with your two and have 1 leash in each hand that way.
I hope that makes sense and I hope it helps!

I walk 3 of my dogs and use a coupler so I only need 1 leash.

I keep my dogs on separate leashes. Because of their size difference and possible corrections with the younger, I prefer it this way.

Oh and the older one is a nut case when it comes to barking in general, barks for everything and NOTHING when in the yard while the younger one only barks when she feels there is a real need for it. It's like yin & yang there.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

I don't think they make a coupler for 37 dogs. Well unless I can figure a way to make up 3 small dog, dog sled teams.....

Are you kidding, they're Pinschers. They will kill a Gnome before pulling it.
