Default Odd Greeting

I have 3 Havanese. The youngest, Joy is very submissive. This much I know for sure. But I can't figure this part out: Whenever she is excited to see us, she runs and gets something (usually a rawhide chew) in her mouth and cries excitedly as if she is offering it to us. But instead, she holds onto it. Any ideas what she is doing?

Smile Welcome to the forum!

I had to 'chuckle' when I read about your dog, Joy! My Max has been doing the same thing for years--He will be 12 April 1st. I don't give rawhides but he has a certain soft rounded ball-like toy that he always goes and gets. He is waiting with it at the door for me to come in. He does this whenever my married daughter comes over too. Lol, I always figured it was something to put in his mouth when he gets overly excited---He doesn't 'give' it to me either---just keeps 'mouthing it and shaking his head. Lol, I call it his pacifier.

Hope you enjoy this forum---I do!

Manny (Jack Russell) does exactly the same thing - but he has to bring something soft. He'll grab socks or a soft toy or even a ball of wool and run up to me with it then run ahead of me. He's not asking me to chase him because if I stay still and call him "seriously" he will bring it and let me take it.

Our old retriever used to do it too but that was more expected. Jack Russells aren't exactly known for their gentleness LOL!
