Default Rescued Dog Separation Anxiety

Rescued an injured 4 mth old stray off the streets 2 days ago. She has a broken left hind leg, skinny and severely dehydrated.Vet gave her fluids and painkillers. She is very loving.Since the fluids, she has been eating, drinking.Sleeps on my terrace in a make shift cardboard box with blankets.I have a glass door leading to the terrace and it has to be kept closed as I also have 2 cats. She would keep popping her head out to check if I was there.Yesterday I decided that she has to learn to be alone.Slept in my bedroom located at the other end of the garden, also with a glass door. Woke up 3am to see her at that door, whining. Moved her bed to that door and only then did she go to sleep.Separation anxiety?Yet to decide if I am keeping her or not(i really want to though!) as we are expats.Moving with 2 cats was tough. Regardless if I am keeping her or not(at least until she is better), I think that I should teach her not to be anxious when someone is not around.
Any suggestions?

Smile Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for rescuing the poor little girl! Did the vet do anything about her broken leg? She is bound to be upset about being left alone with the life she has led up to now! And you have only had her a couple of days---She wants a forever home! I hope you keep her. I know you have cats but if you could confine the puppy to a blocked off room and use a see thru gate--so she could see you and be nearer to you--also give the cats and her time to get acquainted without being in the same room--Maybe gradually they would be okay together and can all have the run of the place.

You might want to check out the blue strip across the page(s) in this forum--Find the word Search and click on it. Put separation anxiety in the search box---Will bring up a list of threads/posts done in here previously on this problem--Quite a few pages to check out. You could also check out the internet by putting-- dog separation anxiety in your browser.

Would love to see pics of the little girl. If you do decide to keep her--Love to hear what you decide to call her and keep us up to date on her. She may have been unlucky before you rescued her but maybe you are changing that luck for her now.

Will go to take xrays today then we shall see. We wanted to give her a day of rest and feed and hydrate her properly first. Vet says if it is her hip, it will heal naturally but if it is the leg,an operation is needed.I really want to keep her but it's tough with all the moving. She seems ok with the cats and vice versa. Both looking at each other through the glass door. No barking no hissing. There is hope to unite them!I read other replies on forum.Just wanted to make sure it is separation anxiety and if so,should I show tough love now or should I wait till she is more settled. Here are 2 photos of her. Hope I uploaded them correctly. See how thin she is? But that face is so adorable!

OMG!! That is my favorite breed--She has got to be at least mainly Golden Retriever if not all!! I just rescued a Golden/Cocker four months ago--Call her Sami. I had another male dog (Corky) of the same combination that I had to put to sleep 10 months ago and I searched until I found another one. Your dog is a pretty dog even being skinny right now. She has the same sweet face of my Sami too. I couldn't be happier with Sami---The Golden is a happy breed and mine seems to be smiling a lot of the time. Did the vet say she was about 4 months old---I would have guessed older than that.

Here are a couple links to pictures of my Sami:
Pics Of Sami--new rescue dog (and Max)

Many "positions" of Sami

And you can see pics of my Corky and my other dog--Max, a cocker spaniel--He just turned 12 on April 1st.----In my albums on my profile page.

I think the separation anxiety will take time --She needs to be there longer and find that you love her and she has found a forever home 1st. When leg is taken care of--Take her for walks and socialize her----Give her time. I may be all wrong but I think 'pushing her away' so to speak at this point would only reinforce her fears all the more---She needs lots of love and attention right now.---My thoughts anyhow!

Keep us informed---I love hearing about this breed--Lol, love 'em period! Hope things work out. Not sure if you were talking about moving so much as an adjustment for the pets to make but if so---The pet is going to be happiest where ever YOU are!!
