Unhappy barking and chasing

This question has probably been asked elsewhere but I can’t find anything. My daughter has two dogs. One is a Shih Tzu/ Brussels Griffon mix who is 20 months old (Millie). She sadly has Juvenile Renal Disease and isn’t healthy but is happy so far. She has a another dog who is a Poodle/Shih Tzu mix (Lola). She is 16 months and our problem. My daughter lived alone with these two dogs but had to move back with me in January because she couldn’t afford or cope alone with Millie’s problems.

My step son apparently started playing games with Lola when they had been there a couple of weeks. I did not witness it but he apparently chased her around screaming. Now, whenever he is around (or any males close to his age) she barks and barks. When they walk away she chases them but does not try to hurt them. She gets very worked up and does not hear anyone telling her to stop. She has now started to bark at passers by. The barking is very loud and goes on 10 or more times per day. My son can pick her up and she will relax when he does but as soon as he puts her down again, she tenses up and starts barking.

She has not had formal training and I have suggested this to my daughter as no one can get her attention when she gets really worked up. Any other ideas?

Hi you may want to take a look at my previous post in this section called 'please help me understand my dogs aggression'.
It mentions a clicker training book called 'click to calm' which would really help you and i really recommend, it will not only help get an understanding of the behaviour but will show you how to help overcome it. if you read some of the responses to my post it will give you an idea of what this training will do to help your daughters dog.
it will also be useful to get the 'clicker training for dogs' book by Karen Pryor.
i have found getting you dog to respond to clicker training it a really quick process, but overcoming problems takes time and patience, try not to forgot to follow the book, this is where i lost my way!
lots of luck!
