Question no longer potty trained?

my dog is about 6 years old and has been potty trained for several years. every so often she goes through a stage when she will pee in the house several places. she doesn't behave as though she needs to go outside. she walks to the other room pees on the carpet and then back to what she was doing.

She has also peed the last several nights in her kennel again with no signs that she needs to go out.

any suggestions as to why this might be happening?

That's weird, because if she is indeed potty trained then as years pass, she'll get more used to unloading in the "right" places, and not the other way around. Just like you'll lose touch of how good you are in what you're doing if you don't get to practice/do it from time to time, I think that's the case with your dog? First thing I thought of is to re-train, it'd be easier now since you did said she was trained before.

At 6yr.s old your dog is now considered a senior. At her age it's very possible her bladder is getting weaker and she can't hold it or she may have a bladder infection.First and for most I would get her to a vet to have her checked for an infection.Anytime a dog exhibits a new behavior especially things like that you need to have them medically cleared from the vet so you'll know for sure if it's medical or behavioral!

Please let us know!

If your vet prescribes Proin---Please check out this long important thread in this forum before giving even 1 pill!!: Is your dog on PROIN? READ THIS! And please be aware that another name for this killer is phenylpropanolamine! Always look up the side effects of all prescribed meds!!! And this is the most important one to check out. It should be banned---Would save many dogs lives!

I would agree that you should first rule out a bladder infection, but you say this happens every so often...does anything change at that time? You go away? Have house guests? Anyone bring any pets over? Maybe a change in routine is taking a toll?
