WEIRDEST behavior, 1 yr old pug
My 1 yr old pug has been acting quite strange this morning, im starting to worry about her.
She will NOT leave anyone in the familys side for any reason. She's walking right between our legs so close that weve been tripping over her. :P if we stop walking, she'll go in circles around us and start to pace. Let her outside this morning to go potty, but she just cried until I went out with her (I knew she had to go, first thing in the morning) but she just sat on my toes and refused to go anywhere.
When we came in, I tried to give her her favorite treat in the entire world, and she just spat it out. Shes panting but she wont drink. She seems really nervous, and wont even chase the cat (her favorite hobby)
I'm in one room, and my mother in a room down the hall. Shes pacing back and forth, peeking in on us at either end. I'm really wondering what's up. She's been in heat for about a week now.
Any ideas?

Something has probably scared her. One idea, if you're located in the US, is it's fireworks time. Both of my dogs have anxiety over fireworks to their own degree. Even if the fireworks aren't constantly going off, they tend to be more clingy through the weeks. For us it's a 3 month season. It may be a possibility for you since your dog is only 1 and probably doesn't remember hearing it as a puppy.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Hi, when you let her out this morning did she actually go potty (did you see it)? If she has a urinary track infection or something similar that could cause her to pace, act skiddish and not eat or drink water. My 15 yr old husky had that issue and we took her to the vet to get it checked out.

A female that is in season for really the first time will become skittish and nervous. This will lead to much pacing and panting. She is uncomfortable and therefore is in a somewhat frightened state. At this point it will ease once she comes out of season. Though this may in fact be her second season, the first may have been mild in comparison. Being that it is probably her first season that is in full, would be a good idea for a vet check and arrange to get her spayed. Good luck.

I was just wondering if you ever found the reason that your pug was doing that. I have an 11 month old male pug that just started to do the same thing. I know he isnt in heat. My dog is also neutered. Any information is helpful.
