hi,
we just got a german sheppard cross from a rescue shelter. she's about 7 months old. we have chickens in a coup in the garden, but everytime to try to show her the chickens she goes totally nuts (jumping up, running at the coup etc...) please could someone give us some advice as she's getting no better at calming down.
thanks

I have several. Put a hot wire around your chicken coop so the dog can't get too close. Some chicken farmers use shock collars on chicken chasers because it is more immediate and more affective than the possitive reinforcement used for potty training your dog. Some chain their dog outside the coop so they are around the chickens all the time 24/7 and they get used to them and find them boring so they quit chasing. I think you should probably find an LGD (livestock guarding dog) forum and ask them what to do about the family pet chasing the livestock. They can probably come up better answers that I can't even think of right now.
