Default Can my new dog help my old dogs behaviour problems???

Hi

I posted on the forum a while ago about my Dobe Lexi - now about 20 months old.

She has issues on the lead and often goes crazy at everything especially dogs, cars, people etc.

She is still like this but is showing (mild) improvement. We use clicker training on her and she is now great in the house and everywhere else, unless she is on the lead.

We have recently got a 6 month old Weimaraner named Poppy. She is a very happy dog and great on the lead. They get on really well and it appears that Lexi is being submissive towards Poppy.

What I wanted to know is whether it is possible for Poppy to influence Lexi's behaviour on the lead and calm her down. Not sure whether a dogs psychology works this way?

I don't think there is a great deal of difference in Lexi's lead behaviour since we got her about a year ago, it means i cannot take her for a walk without my partner, she gets stressed and worries other people, and it makes me very stressed also.

i think we need to find a new way to try and help her behaviour.

thankyou

Dogs can learn behaviors from eachother. With that said, it can go either way; Poppy can influence Lexi's behavior and Lexi can influence Poppy's behavior, for good or bad, or neither will influence the other. It varies. Ultimately, you'll still need to keep training her and be the top contributer yourself since you should be the biggest influence in your dogs life.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

It has been my experience that the younger dog tends to emulate the older one.
