Exclamation Dogs chasing sticks

thought would just write about a Vet article that I read, apparently they deal with( sometimes horrific ) injuries to dogs caused by the dog running onto a stick which has not landed flat but has stuck in the ground at an angle. The dog is so keen to get the stick, it runs right onto it and the stick either goes down the throat or through the roof of the mouth. I used to throw sticks for my dog and never thought about this but it has made me rethink. Am new to this site but there are some really helpful posts here

Ouch! I don't usually throw sticks but it's still something to keep in mind still.

Welcome to the forum!

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

That's not the only danger of a stick - splinters can catch in the gums or the throat, pieces of stick can wedge in the back of the throat.

My dogs love wood and in the past I have allowed my dogs to chew and chase sticks outdoors but I have seen/read so many horror stories about it I won't allow it anymore.

Outside of a dog a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog it's too dark to read!
