your first step is to get your dog fixed. He is a mixed breed and should not be bred. Thousands of mixed breed dogs are killed in shelters daily... if you want another mutt go adopt one. Your dog will be much happier and healthier once he is fixed. He will also live longer!

maybe you missunderstood
why would him being mixed breed make him any less okay to be bred for my own love and home? i could understand if i was tring to breed for intent to sell.. but otherwise, i feel you are wrong. I also did not ask for help in THAT department, tho i appreciate the opinions. My fiance WILL not fix the dog.. and either will i. so there for, any other suggestions? thank you otherwise...

The only suggestions I have are have him fixed and sign up for training classes. This is just one of the MANY problems that comes along with having a dog that is not fixed.
I am just curious WHY you want to breed him? How are his hips (have you had him OFA for dysplasia?) how did his last CERF come back? Do you know the other tests required before you can breed him?
I am not being rude just trying to understand why anybody would want to breed more mutts when so many are killed daily... why not rescue?

NOT thinking you rude! :)
not getting him fixed and choosing to breed him is a personal choice. i don't think your being rude but i don't feel like explaining it anymore, thanks. I don'tbother you for your choice of NOT breeding.. u see?
so if thats your only thought on the peeing then i guess i have to keep looking. thanks anyways tho!

I am a breeder. I breed AKC/UKC registered pure bred dogs (and only breed one breed) that are titled in conformation shows, obedience, hunt tests, agility and rally and are health cleared (OFA, PennHip, CERF - hips, elbows, heart, eyes, etc.). I own 5 dogs and breed one litter a year (if that) and only when I have a long list of interviewed and approved homes lined up. I am a member in good standing of 2 breed clubs (one national and one regional) that work hard to preserve the integrety of my breed. My pedigrees have multiple champions, I know the health of all the dogs in the line for generations back and am able to trace my line back to the early 1920's ... While I am not perfect and don't clame to be, I have done my research, looking into pedigrees, health, temperament, whelping and breeding procedures, etc. for over 10 years before EVER breeding my first litter.

Haha....this is funny.
I just always thought my (male) lab was a Urine "Sommelier"
yes...he does the chatterring...lip smacking... mouth puffing... and looks like he is in a trance.
He also goes up to other dogs, and licks their genitals...I just laugh thinking my dog is a very oral dog.... but I guess it is also a dominant behavior? He is a very dominant dog.
Maybe he is just addicted to urine?
Anyone know of a Urina Anonymous dog group ?

So, if your female has eight pups, you're prepared to keep all of them including the parents?

Interesting theory. Would they still do that for pee that wasn't their own?
I don't understand why you are trying to interfere in a completely natural behaviour that hurts noone. I believe an animal is to be respected for what he is. He is not meant, nor should be expected, to comply to your aesthetic standards, he isn't a "little human". As long as his behaviour is natural and not endangering anyone or anything then punishing him for doing what comes naturally to him I feel is unjust.
Same as above.

Hi..i am new at this Dog Forum..still trying to figure out font size, colors, etc.
But in response to your post..i totally agree..that is what got me to google in looking for why dogs lick other dogs urine. Mine does it all the time and seems to thoroughly enjoy it..and yes he mouth 'quivers'..which is why i knew
after i realized nothing was wrong with him, that he liked it. On our walks he will lick a blade of grass from one end to the other just taking his time..then
'mark it' afterwards..i thought at first maybe he was making sure all the other dogs urine was really gone before he marked his !! i still think it is a combo of both..sometimes he will lick a females urine and start sneezing, my neighbor who has a female dog when mine was doing that just said casually,
"Oh..it is nothing, they sometimes just get a reaction to it"..and that was that! So i say..enjoy..it's a dog thing!

its OK, let it do it
Like above, my dog is 3 years old and he licks pee on a daily basis, he specially likes pee from females in heat, so I suspect it has to do with pheromones. He is very healthy and has never gotten sick so I think its OK to let it do it.
Its like someone wouldnt let you surf for p*rn, you wouldnt like it either.

I understand its normal BUT!
My wife and I are over-the-road truck drivers and our black lab/ German Shepherd mix does the pee-licking thing frothing, quivering and all the problem i have is truckers are nasty and pour everything from their own urine to antifreeze in the grass. I think I will try the distracting him with treat and hope it helps. For me its more of a safety issue than being grossed out.

Getting old!
I realize this is a very old thread so I apologize for posting on this thread however...
My one dog is 2 years old, mutt if u ever heard of a mutt (chihuahuaXcorgiXpugXjackrussel) and my new puppy (about 8 months old) is JackrusselXJug.
The little one constantly licks piss off of the older's wiener and visa versa. Its disgusting. I know some of you say its natural but I have seen my older dog throw up from licking the pee before and even foam at the mouth so you cant tell me this is natural,or atleast a natural behaviour that should continue, also the chattering is weird and seems very unnatural as well.
Yes I realize its nature for dogs to do weird stuff like hump eat poo etc. (so help me god if my dog brings in a lump of poo from the backyard again) however its really embarassing if I have company over and I don't want my dog(s) to get sick. Has anyone no real way to get rid of this or explain it?

Hi! I thought about posting here, although I know it's an old thread, and decided to, hope you won't be offended, because it seems like the other posts from the breeder upset you.
I think his/her point was, if you have a mixed breed, you don't know their health history. So, if you breed him, which, yes, is your own personal choice, you MIGHT end up with puppies who have health problems they could inherit from their daddy.
If you still want to breed him in the future, maybe you could have health tests done so you don't unwittingly pass on health issues to puppies....
