Default WHINING!!!

I have a jack russell. Hes kinda a mama's boy. 2 weeks ago he broke a tendon and had surgery. He hasnt' walked on his back leg. He used to sleep with us, but with his splint we have made him sleep on the floor. He hits you in the head with his leg splint. He seemed ok with it for a while. Past two days he has been waking up whingin alot. He will walk around the house and whine. He doesn't play and doesn't do anything. Understandable, because of the sling and all. he hasn't since his leg injury.I don't know what to do about the whining. I need to sleep. he is worse than a baby.

Poor baby! It is of course sad he's not feeling well, and assuming his condition is heeling properly, you want to make sure you are not rewarding his "oh poor me" behavior. I know, it probably sounds harsh, but it's really not. If he, and being a JRT, he probably does, know how to gain your attention. Oh, I do a little whine, look sad, Mom comes to coo over me. Smart puppies those dogs! Just make sure he has plenty of attention, and cuddle time, but on YOUR time, not when he's asking for it. Ignore, Ignore, Ignore those "I need your attention" pleas. Seeing how he's already a "Momma's Boy" it will get worse just about before it's going to get better, so hang tight!!!! I would also say, you might want to work on separation anxiety, because if he doesn't have it now, it could be a good possibility if he is indeed clingy. Check out Patricia McConnell's book, "I'll be home soon".

My aunt had a dog who's leg got broken and he whined at first. When it was more than healed, he kepted whining to get attention. It might be because he knows that your going to give him attention if he whines or it may just be he is a little sore. Most likely the first one. It will take a little bit for me him to stop, but he will eventually.
