Default Nerves Dog

I just adopted a dog a month ago. When I adopted her I was told that she was abused by her last owners. The conditions she was in when I got her I don't think she was in a good rescue center. After a lot of care and love, she is now very lovable dog. I have one problem due to her being abused every time she gets nerves she pees. I had a friend over the other week and she just walked by her and Holly started barking and she peed. What can I do to solve this problem. When we are home alone she is fine unless I raise my voice or she hears a loud sound. I never dealt with a dog with the problem and I don't know what to do. I love her and could never get rid of her. She has been passed along to many times. She is apart of my family for good. I just want to do what is best for her.

Re the nervous peeing, I believe you said you only had your dog a month? That is a short time for him/her to get comfortable. I had a dog that did this when it was younger but grew out of it as he became more comfortable in his environment. If you can hang in there, it probably will go away. Also, being very calm when someone arrives will help, like it is not a big deal when someone comes. My first guess would be to give him/her more time to adjust to a new home. If you can hang in there for awhile, he may adjust to his/her environment. Also, the dog may associate some frightening behavior with a stranger arriving -may have happened at the rescue.
