Default FEARFUL RIDGEBACK PUPPY

Hello All. I have an 8-month old Ridgeback puppy who is very afraid of strangers & children. I can't seem to break her of this. She barks her head off at people walking in front of the house, and is so scared of my friends' little kids. I've socialized her around people & dogs. Any advice?

As to the barking problem, I would start by having your dog on a leash so you will have more control. When the child comes, it will be easier to not allow the barking. I assume the pup will stop barking if you are right there? Then you can use the nose grab if your pup will not stop, of course saying no, no. Then, keeping a very close eye on your pup, have him/her sit beside you while the child is in the room. Eventually, with practice, the barking should stop. As with anything, it may take awhile and you will need to get your friend's cooperation, letting them know in advance what you are trying to accomplish so you know when they will be coming and leash your dog.
