My dog got out of our fenced in back yard 5 days ago and hasn't returned!! We looked everywhere for hours, but nothing! I dont think he got hit by a car, and he has a dog collar with a microchip and a phone number to contact us if he gets lost. He has gotten away a few times in the past but he only went a few streets away to visit other dogs. I am so scared that we will never see him again! He is a husky/shepard mix we got from the SPCA. He's only 1 and half years old, very friendly! Can anyone offer any advice or stories of their dogs running away? I need some hope!! Thank you.
1) Check your near by shelters!
2) Post this on craiglist or other forms of announcement in your area!
3) *Important* Make flyers of your dog pictures with information! Make sure you write "Lost Dog -Reward if found" big enough so others can see. Post it anywhere and everywhere it allows you to. This is VERY helpful!
I really hope you'll find your dog soon. Next time make sure you won't let this happen again. It's a dangerous world out there...
I'm so sad hearing that your dog ran away? Just keep in mind that your dog has a happy life now to clear out your sadness. Without proper training, dogs behave like dogs. They soil your house, destroy your belongings, bark excessively, dig holes in your yard, scratch at the door, fight other dogs, refuse your commands, and even bite you. Best thing to do is to buy a new dog and train it well this time.
yes, definitely check the shelters. And don't just call once and not back again. They likely get new "strays"/lost dogs every day and maybe will find your lost one. Here's hoping. Please update when you can.
You said the SPCA does that mean you are from New Zealand?! If you are still looking there are websites that help call the pound and SPCA on a regular basis. There is a missing part on www.trademe.co.nz flyers around the area always helps because people may have seen your dog wandering around. Also regularly drive and walk the area calling your pup. Sometimes they haven't been picked up just lost their collar and wandering around depending on your area. When I was living in papakura my dog got out when I was away and was gone for 7 days and he was living it up large on the streets like a real gang boy haha. Be positive all is not lost and good luck I hope you find your pup!
