Default Dogs & Fireworks

Why is it dogs hate fireworks? Is it all dogs? Is your dog scared of Fireworks.

I dread Fireworks night as I feel soooo sorry for my baby, We have old windows slash or something so they are not very sound proof and we live near a Rec which has a display so my more baby gets a blow of it.

As soon as they start she'll run around all scared and starts wimpering (is wimpering crying?)

Then once I can finally get her to come to me she is shaking terribly and I do not know what to do to try & relive her of being scared.

What exactly is it they are scared of? The loads noise? High pitched noise?

Dogs have much better hearing than we do so I imagine it sound a lot louder to her than does to you. There are CD's you can purchase of Fireworks for the purpose of desensitzing your dog to them. This might be a good option for you.

I personally can't stand loud fireworks. They make me nervous and jumpy. Neither of my dogs is bothered by them though. Matter of fact, I have even taken Natalie to 4th of July parties with me and the loud fireworks didn't phase her one bit. My mother's GSD was so bad about fireworks that she had to get tranquilizers from the vet for him.

My dog is also terrified of fireworks. On bonfire night I always stay in with her while my other half takes the kids to the local firework display.
The thing is people seem to set of fireworks all year round now.So I cannot guarantee my dog has always got company when people are setting them off.

My dog is scared of fireworks too. Every time 4th of July comes around she would be all freaked out and goes and hides in the garage. Nothing you can do to get her out of the garage. Only time she comes out is when the noise is gone.
