Question Females First Breeding Question

I own a beautiful black and white female. In January she will be six years old. I have had her vet checked and everything is good. I finally found a male that would be suitible for her. A white male with beautiful blue eyes. The question that I have I have searched for the answer, but could not find it. I have been researhing breeding, whelping, weening, just everything for the past five years. I wanted to be prepared for this.

Today I went to the stud owners house. They have never breed this dog. He is 1.5 years old, and is maybe five inches taller then her.(i know, "you should find a male smaller") I figured there would be some problems along the way.

Well we get there and they( the dogs) were fine. they didn't fight, I watched them carefully. My dog imediatley would stand still with her tail up and off to the side. She waited for him to get on her. this went on for a few min. before he got the hint. Finally he figured out which end he should be on(with assistance) and they got to it. He did hump her a few times but they never tied.

My question is: When the male finally started penetrating (i think) she would scream in pain. I'm not even sure if it was in pain because when she doesn't want something done...like being brushed, she'll scream. Any ways she would scream, try to get away, and would growl whenever he tried to touch her for the next five min. But she allowed it again. Is this common for a first time breeding? I've never heard this being discussed so I guess no. What could be the problem? Is she not ready since this is the first meet?

Anyways tomorrow (Friday) I'll let her rest. And Saterday try again. If no tie, then I'll wait for the next one and try again one last time.

Thanks

From your description of coat and eye colour i take it that your dog is a Siberian husky. I personally think that six is too old to have a first litter from a bitch, even if she has been vet checked and found to be healthy, I presume both dog and bitch have good hip scores and clear eye certificates. I would normally breed from a bitch for the first time between 3-4 years and if she proves to be a good brood then again 2-3 years later but I would not have a first litter as old as six. It sounds like both dog and bitch are maidens so neither know what to do. It is normally better if you have an inexperienced bitch to use a proven dog and vice versa. Has she been tested to see if she has ovulated and ready for mating? Possibly she is just coming into standing heat but is not quite ready. Some bitches are quite flirty but when it actually comes down to the dog mating her then they are not happy about it. I have found that siberians are very easy to mate and if a bitch isn't happy about being mated then don't push it, it isn't meant to be. I have a very successful stud dog and he has mated a number of bitches, i never allow the bitches to be held, if they are not willing then there won't be a mating.
As i said earlier, at six, if she were mine then i would forget about breeding from her and buy in a puppy (I only breed when i am looking to keep a puppy for myself).

Really, you wait until the bitch is about 3-4 years of age. Is that better than doing it at an earlier time? Reason I'm asking is I have a 2 year old Australian Sheperd and I am wanting to breed her, she just came out of her 3rd heat, I'm not sure of the perfect time to breed her. She does the same thing when a male dog tries to hump her she growls or barks at them, or when they're sniffing her behind she sits down, she really don't like to be mounted. Does this sound like she will never want to be or just is not ready for it, I still consider he a puppy some what. Any suggestions??

Siberians are very slow maturing so I would not advise breeding earlier than around 3 years but if the ozzies mature earlier then 2-3 years would be ok. I personally feel that some people a in too much of a hurry to breed and should thet the dog grow up and mature before even thinking about it.

It sounds as if your girl just isn't ready, my girls do all this sitting down and telling the boys off but when they're ready they literally throw themselves at the boys. My youngest has just finished her first season, she's 15months, when she was in standing heat she paraded herself in front of the boy's pen with her tail to the side asking to be mated. some people are in too much of a rush and seem to forget that although " the book" says the time for mating is from day 12 to 15 not all bitches read the book. Both my girls who have been bred from were mated on day 17 and 19, they were tested and this is when they ovulated, they produced avarage sized litters. If in doubt get her tested to see when she ovulates and if she ovulates and still doesn't want mated either try a different dog as sometimes bitches don't fancy their chosen dog or accept it's not meant to be.
