Breeding too young Hi,
From all the books I have read, your dog is sexually mature and can get your bitch pregnant even that young. He may not be overly sterile, so who knows. He may also not have the 'nose' for it yet. How many days is your bitch into her cycle? Do you know? How many days has she been bleeding. A lot has to do with timing. I would suggest separating them, and take my word for it, this is no easy task! I have a small cavalier king charles that dug down two feet under the fence to get to my too young to breed bitch! But breeding this young is not ideal, and a person that is knowledgable about breeding wouldn't buy the puppies anyway, or at least I wouldn't.
I am not sure about the States, but in the UK, you can not register a litter with a dog so young, he has be at least one year, but I would recommend waiting until two when you can do the DNA tests and ensure his heart is good.
Hope this helps. You won't know for quite some time if she has taken, she is in her prime for it and if you are serious about breeding and she has not had a litter yet you should know that the window is closing of the best (healthiest for your dog) time for her to have a first litter. Your stud dog won't be ready in time. How much have you looked into their pedigrees?
There are tons of books on the market that you should read before going any further. Start with Successful Dog Breeding and also read book on canine reproduction, the one by Holst is good. You will also need a book on pre and postnal care to cover anything and everything. I like Breeding A Litter by Beth Finder Harris. If you go to amazon and type in successful dog breeding and it should bring up lots of other suggestions.
Again, hope this helps, it is meant in the most positive way possible.
All the best,
