Default Trouble breeding

I am trying to breed my to toy poodles (unrelated, 2 yrs old). The female will not let the male on her unless I sit with her. Even if I sit with her he is unable to do his job. Any ideas? I have heard that when dogs live together the female will often not let the male mate with her. Thanks! Beth

Is the first time on day 9 of heat? Also the tail has to be to the side, then she will be receptive to any male. Also be sure mate them on day 9-11-and 13 and the tie last at least 10 minutes. Here is another forum that you can ask this question.

Cool Trouble breeding

We have 2 dobermans that we adore. We were wanting to breed them however she refuses to have ANY interaction with him while she is in heat. Her tail isnt an issue, we have tried helping but when we attempt to help she snips and sits down (even if we try to hold her up) and he doesnt have a clue on what to do. Is there any thing else we can do or should I be calling the vet for artificial insemination? Please help. I want a puppy...

Sometimes a the female might feel like she isn't ready yet. If it doesn't happen this time around, wait until the next time. Sit them down to a candlelit dinner with some romantic music in the background.

May I ask what you are planing on doing with all of the puppies? Do you have people lined up to buy them?

How old are they both?

Your prime reason for breeding them is so that you can have a pup from the litter? Is it really worth risking the health or even the life for the bitch you adore for that reason? You could find that the cost of your puppy runs into thousands of dollars and ends in heartache.

If you really really feel you want to breed your dogs go back to the breeders who sold you the ones you have. Talk to them, ask their opinions, ask about the risks and the costs.

I'm sure we all look at our dogs whether they are purebreeds or cross breeds or complete mixtures and think that they would produce the perfect puppies but when thousands of dogs are pts each week in shelters and pounds we all have to consider our responsibility as dog lovers and avoid adding to the problem.

I would suggest a trip to the vet, It might be worth discussing with them spay/ neuter.

We bred our Dachshund and Chihuahua and lost a puppy at 10 weeks. It devastated me. I realized I'm not a breeder and I cannot handle it. It's a business and if you're too much of an animal lover, things like this will happen and will affect you too hard. I got attached to all out puppies even though we knew we wouldn't keep them. It was easy enough to sell them, but to lose one to death was so horrible.

If you're certain this is something you want to do, then follow the advice above for conception and do your research for whelping. Be sure you use a pig rail in your whelping box. Don't let kids (little ones) pick up your pups until they are at least 6 weeks old, and even then under close supervision. Deworm them early and repeatedly. Shots as recommended by the vet. If you do this the right way, you will lose a big chunk of your profit.

The assumption that having a male and female breed makes one a breeder continues to boggle the mind.
Breeding dogs requires time, study and sometimes years. It is far more than putting 2 dogs together.
The risk factors generally outweigh as they should the reasons for doing it.
Just so you can have a puppy is not a good enough reason to risk the life of your dog.
Have these dogs been tested? Do you know what tests are needed in your breed?
Learning how to be a breeder is not something you ask on the internet as no one has the time to reply as it will take months.
Find yourself a mentor, a qualified breeder in your area that breeds Dobermans and ask them to mentor you. In most cases if lucky you will see a litter born and realize the prep work and what you need to know should something go wrong. More pups are lost this way than any other all because someone wanted to breed their dog but had no idea of the consequences or the steps needed in case the dam had difficulty delivering or if a pup was not breathing.
I suggest you get a book on your breed and read up on all their health issues, tests required etc. Than get a book on the aspects of breeding Dobermans. Once that has been done, start searching for a mentor.
