Still Breedable if testes not dropped yet after 2 yrs? Please Help!!
I have a 3.8 pound pomeranian that is 2 years old. A breeder sold him to me when he was 8 months old because his testes hadn't dropped yet. I have a couple coming over tonight with a little chihuahua that is in heat for breeding. I don't have a clue wether or not my pom's testes have dropped yet (I haven't paid attention to that) but I do know that he tries to hump my other senior pomeranian. I just need to know if a Dog is still breedable if his testes have not dropped. I don't know anything about breeding. If anyone knows anything, please let me know!! Thankyou!!! Also, how do you know if the testes have dropped? He's a fluffy and squirmy guy, so I haven't checked yet.

Breeding a Monorchid dog...
Usually the testicles will drop no later than 1 year old. This is Called Monorchids, They can be fertile although it is also hereditary and I wouldnt recommend breeding a male with only 1 testicle. Probably safest to have him neutered.

yes, he shoud have been neutered before you even got him. most vets say if they have not dropped by 7 months they are not going to - so this "breeder" dumped him on you.
the humping is often a dominance issue & has nothing to do with hormones
you have had this dog all this time & not had him to a vet? has he at least gotten a legal rabies shot at a clinic?
un-neutered dogs are at much higher risk for cancer & if the even one testicle has not dropped he is at even higher risk.
mixing breeds of dogs is just plain wrong. do you realize that we are killing 8 million pets a year in shelters.
right now there are 5569 chihuahua's & 1004 poms ( & their mixes ) listed on petfinder & that is just one message board for shelters & rescues. many of these will be killed because there are no home's for them.
tell the greedy couple to get their dog spayed. this is called back yard breeding & for every puppy they sell, one dies in a shelter because it lost a chance for a home

You're kind of rude. Don't you think? They are breeding because they want a puppy. Not to make a profit. If there were 2 puppies, then we would each keep one. But that is unlikely because the dogs are so small. My dog HAS been to the vet. He HAS had a rabies shot (2 of them). And he is now neutered. The breeder was not "dumping him off" on me. She told me he wasn't dropped before purchase (in fact. In the add). I just had a few questions. Quit making assumptions.
and Thank you Patti for your kind response.

she isn't being rude at all
if they wanta puppy
ther are plenty in the shelters that are in need of a home.
and creating another mutt is totally uncalled for.
it would be one thing IF this pom was in perfect health and not a genetic defect AND they havealready finnished him , and titled him.
suggesting it is "ok" to willy nilly breed more genetic disaters while selfishly condeming other "accidents" thatarealready in the pound is a horrid thing and she should be ashamed of herself.
if she just wants a young dog go to the shelter ther are plenty this time of year.
in deperate need of a good home.
and do your self a favor OP get him nutered he should of already been .

if the testes had not dropped the dog should have been to a vet not wait til 2 yrs and think it is ok to breed.
in addition, you seem to be under the impression that since the dogs are small there may only be one pup. Far from the truth at best. Fact is you had better hope for multiple birth or be prepared to have the Chi in the vet for a c section.
Small breed dogs when only one pup is involved create a serious health issue as the dam cannot deliver since in most cases the pup grows far too large.
What has been said here with regards to what you should have done makes sense. You have failed to take into consideration nearly every factor with regards to healthy breeding and in addition with your own words clearly know nothing about what is involved with breeding. I have bred Miniature Pinschers for over 47 years. I have come close several times to losing my dams and pups due to only one pup but in my case as a breeder I knew the signs and took care of it. I have been fortunate with my males to have no testes inssues but do have other breeder friends that have had and the males were neutered to avoid this issue down the line.
