Unhappy URGENT HELP NEEDED puppies are dying!!

Hi gang, I haven't posted in awhile. I had a litter (small) on Friday night. It took her over 12 hours to deliver them and almost two hours between the 2nd and 3rd. This was her planned last litter and it seemed to be rather hard on her. I took her in to an emergency appt on the sat pm because she was panting and not taking care of puppies (she is normally an excellent mother). The vet gave her calcium, steriods and penicillin. I took her back to following morning and she is doing much better and the vet thought she hadn't delivered all the last placenta. She ia a bit 'off' with the pups. She seems to only like the female. I just had one little boy die on me. I only just noticed how dehydrated they were about 2 hours ago (had the day from hell starting at 6am, I care for my dying grandmother who has taken to pulling out her catheter at 2 am!). I have managed to get the other boy to latch on after I gave him some cooled boiled water with a touch of honey(well my 12 year old did it) but the bitch is moving around everytime he latches on. This scares me because dogs have a sense when something isn't quite right! However the girl is bit dehydrated as well......any and all suggestions will be appreciated at this very sad time....just praying we don't lose anymore.
Thanks
Amy

Default Puppies

Since you say they are dehydrated, How are you heating them? Puppies need to stay warm but if they are to hot (Heat lamp, Heating pad) they will dehydrate quicker.

How does mom seem to be now? Did the vet check her teats? If she is moving around when they try to nurse, I would watch her teats closely. Sounds like she is uncomfortable, which can sometimes be mastitis.

I will pray for you. I don't know what to tell you 2 do, but continue on seeing the Vet.

A good example of why I'll never experiment with the miracle of birth...it has it's antithesis.

If you think they are dehydrated you either need to give pedialyte or take them all to the vet for I.V. fluids. You should also start giving them supplemental mothers milk (found at most stores).

Why was your dog bred and how old is she?
