Smile Will dogs who do not get along breed?

Hello,

I have a female Pomeranian who is 2 years old. She is very friendly and outgoing with people and other dogs. We recently took in a Minpin/Chihuahua mixed male from a neighbor who was moving and couldn't take his dog with them. Neither are spayed or neutered. When the male was introduced to the female, the female tried to play with him but he was scared and growled at her and scared her away. He is also afraid of people because he backs away when we try to approach him. He is getting a little better with us after a few days, but still doesn't like the female dog. He has actually taken over her favorite sleeping spot, which I thought was odd because usually the first dog in the house is more territorial with places. My question is, will the male still mate with the female if he is afraid to get close to her? How long will it take him to get along with her? What can I do to help them get along?

Thank you

yes he will. you really need to get them both neutered asap or you are going to have puppies & problems.

both are at much higher risk of cancer by not being neutered.

he is going thru a lot of trauma right now & should be given space to acclimate to his new home. he is showing dominance by taking her sleeping spot & he will be lifting his leg on all your furniture too.

when you get them done, the hormones can stay in the system for up to 2 months, so be extremely careful.

I would seperate them with a baby gate & walk them on leashes but at a distance ( 2 people )
