Not getting into the debate about back yard breeders, or anyone who's breeding dogs as a cash crop....
But I feel I have to say a word about SSI, and whatever help may be available to people with disabilities.
SSI is NOT a state program, it is a federal program. It doesn't matter what state you live in. The only problem you may find is that it takes more than one application to get approved, unless you can afford an attorney who specializes in disability claims.
If you are totally and permanently disabled, you may also qualify for Social Security Disability. And once qualified for that, you are also qualified for medical assistance; Medicare and/or Medicaid.
There are also jobs one can do from home, on their computer, that are not scams. Insurance coding and billing, for example. It just takes getting the right training, which is available if you are disabled. It also takes being motivated to actually seek out help, the same as seeking out other forms of help, like SSI. And it's a lot more lucrative than breeding dogs.

If you are referring to my post, please go back and re-read. I did not say that SSI is a state program. I stated, that she should be eligible for Welfare and if not based on her condition she should at least be eligible for SSI not to be confused with Social Security Disability. As for Medicaid or medicare. If you are on full term Disability with SSI does not make you automatically eligible for medicaid/medicare. You have to be at least 55 years of age.
I was on SSI and was rolled over to Disability. I know of a situation where a 53 year old was put on permanent disability and was not eligible for medical coverage until he turned 55. My post also noted that these are a govt program not state program.

Yogi, no I was not referring to your post. The OP stated in one reply to you that there were no programs available in her state. SSI is not a state program, it's federal.
SSI does not qualify you for Medicare, but Social Security Disability does. If someone is denied SSI, SSD or Medicare, they should file for redetermination. It can be difficult, a friend of mine had to apply 3 times before she was approved. She's not yet 55, but receives Medicare and SSD. I also worked as an insurance specialist in a doctors office. We had several patients who were not yet 55 but they had Medicare with their SSD.
Medicaid is available if you have children and have no income, or are below poverty level, whether you are on SSI or SSD or not.

odd, considering I am 57 and now on SS Disability and no documentation or notice have I received regarding Medicare or Medicaid. Instead, DSHS was looking into whether I would still be eligible for Health care through the state even when I was on SSI for 2 months before being moved to full Social Security Disability. I have spoken to a couple of people at the local SS office regarding benefits and not one has said or asked me about Medicare or Medicaid.

No Way
This is my first post so don't be too crule.
I dont believe most people who bread dogs in their home are greedy. On the other hand there is no way I believe you make any kind of a profit doing this! After paying the vet bill (yearly check-ups, heart worm meds, the ocasional emergency visit), buying a QUALITY dog food, purchaceing grooming suplies and toys for a "well-balanced" dog, I won't believe you have made a profit! I know how much I spend on two cockers, proper care is not cheap.
Bottom line: Either your not being truthfull about the profit or your not takeing care of you animals properly!

My experience with the federal government is that they aren't going to tell you about anything, you have to apply. Then you have to file for redetermination. Sometimes (often) you have to get an attorney and fight. I think they count on wearing you down so you stop fighting. Then they don't have to pay.

Well.. for what it's worth, i think you're lazy and not trying to get help from anyone. The fact that you state over and over that "No One Cares" is a sign that you pity yourself. I'm not sure i have much respect for someone who thinks they deserve better than what they got. The only people who think that are the people who dont do anything for themselves and want everything to be handed to them at the expense of EVERYONE else's hard work. Secondly, you said that you're concerned about abducted children and what not. Well i am too, but the fact that i care about animals isn't saying that i dont care about children, its saying that im humble enough to care about the CHILDREN that can't talk for themselves or defend themselves. The children with four legs, not just two, with fur, not just hair. Well.. in my book you're not much of a good, respectable person. And it doesnt seem like you're trying to be. The fact that you are or aren't in a wheelchair makes no difference to me. You have a right to raise your son, but at what cost are you willing to do that? Sell dignity and self respect? It's easy to get assistance, someone does care, you just need to get up out of your pity-corner and find someone. Seriously. Sell the dogs and get disability/welfare/SSI.
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man"
-- Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)

I do agree with that...lol. I discovered an error on the original determination where they noted the date of disability was off by a whole year. They are now in the process of correcting and issuing me the year they missed. I do have to call them today so will definitely ask about the medicare/medicaid info.

Yogi, it's been 10 years since I did any medical billing, and I know Medicare laws change every year, so I did some searching. Currently you automatically qualify for Medicare after you've been on SS Disability for 2 years.

that makes sense since the friend of mine who went through this a few years back stated the same thing and had to wait the 2 years before was able to obtain medicare.
