Smile Kennels & runs

How big should a run be if you have a 1 yr old pitbull & a 4yr old Airedale?

personally I wouldn't do it. is this going to be full time.

at least 10' long, 6' high, & 8' wide, definately on concrete & covered over with welded wire & 2 x 4's to support it all, & a tarp over at least 1/3 of it.

you can put a box outside the chain link, cut a hole through it & use wire stapels, just make sure the box is big enough.

are they both neutered?

Cut a whole through chainlink? You shouldn't be using chainlink for a pit bull. I wouldn't recommend it personally. The smallest we use are 10.5 x 10.5 square and 6.5 high. You can buy top for them to prevent them from escaping. You can use fencing on the bottom to help keep them from digging and put rebar about the edges. You can also invest a little time and effort and dig a "trench" which you can poor concrete into that will go around the kennel to prevent digging out also. If you get 2 of those you should be fine, you can also find like 10x10s which are only like 6ft high though. How long will they be in their kennels?

yes cut a hole in it to fit around the opening in the box. then wire staple it to the box.

yes it should be heavy duty chain link - a close weave

how do you clean & sanitize dirt?

No it should be like this. Powder River or Magnum, there are probably other brands out there too. You can custom make them also, similar to these and larger, also cheaper to do it yourself.

Heavy duty chainlink still won't with stand if the dog wants out, but is better. It is amazing the difference in quality in some chainlink kennels isn't it? Some are so light in both frame and fence. But the heavy duty or 9 gage still isn't something to use for most when unsupervised. I don't know the OPs dog so I can't say for sure but better to be safe then sorry and to be a responsible APBT and keep the dog in his own yard.

Dirt? I'm not sure, dirt is dirty. You can keep your yard clean as best you can by picking up waste. Most dogs will potty in one particular spot. Pick up the poop and spray with Parvolan (it takes care of more then just parvo and disinfects). There other sanitation spray options too.
