advice anyone?
Hi,
I'm new here and am posting this to breeders thinking you will have the answer I seek.
We rescued a MinPin,I think that's what she is, and have decided to keep her. She is just lovely. She has some behaviors that we are managing to deal with cause from her abuse and neglect. Other than a couple minor things she is a great dog. We got little info on her background and only can assume she is 4 or 5. Well here's the problem. My little shih tzu/maltese mix male locked with her. This was not what I was expecting because I didn't even know she was in heat. No signs of blood, no noticeable swelling in her ummm, area. As a matter of fact we made the appointment for the !2th of june to get them both fixed. Should I let her continue with the pregnancy? Should I have them aborted? What is the right thing to do? If she has the babies I don't worry about good homes, I'll find them. I am big on the don't have a pet if you don't got the time or patience thing. My big concern is her having problems with delivery. Both dogs are small. I just want to do the right thing. So if anyone out there can give me advice, please do. Thank you

Don't worry. She most likely is not pregnant. Heat cycle is 21 days and MinPins are most receptive at 9 to 13 days into cycle so she may not have shown all the signs as she is too early. She can still be spayed as scheduled. In some cases females in season may bleed a little more than normal but your vet will take this into consideration.
I have 13 Miniature Pinschers and and a long time breeder.
Good luck.

personal opinion
I know that pet can have a pregnancy stop by surgery(my aunt just did it to her cat and it s ok now), but I believe it s best not to tamper with nature since both dogs are small. on the other hand , a vet is the right person to decide that, cause the female might be too weak to go though this.

I think you are missing the point, the odds are she is not even pregnant. Just be cause the locked one time does not mean she is pregnant. In all likelihood she is not. It depends on how far along into heat she was when it occurred. Based on what you are saying, that she showed no signs indicates she was too early into her season for her to be receptive. Also, since you do not seem to have a great deal of knowledge regarding breeding I can tell you that in many cases Miniature Pinschers require a c-section and that delivery if not prepared may cost the life of both the dog and her pups. In addition, it is essential that Miniature Pinschers have multiple births to avoid a single pup where in it develops to large to be delivered naturally. Do you know the gestation period? Letting nature take its course in this breed could be more harmful than you think.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will let my vet make the choice for me. I do think she may have had pups before with the way her belly is for from flat and her huge nipples. haha Of course since I am far from an expert and don't trust my hunches the vet will decide. She is just a joy to us. If I had more history on her I'd probably let her go and wait to see. Since i don't I just want to be responsible. Thank you
