#1 (permalink) | | Guest | 3 yr old fullblooded golden pregnant and need advice
i have a 3 yr old golden and i just found out that she is pregnant and don't know when she got pregnant and i am really wondering when she is going to have the puppies. i have felt them move and her nipples are able to express milk but the lady i have talked to said that she probably has a couple of weeks yet. but she breeds shelties and i was wondering if the golden breeds are different when it comes to this. she hasn't droped yet but she does pant alot and she is forever up my butt, wanting attention. i would like a little advice if anyone could help me. now unfortuanatily she was bred by some dog i am not sure of what bred they will be?

Take her to the vet ASAP!! You need to know what to do when she has those puppies. Why was she not spayed? Does she have any health clearances (OFA/CERF)? The most important thing is to get her to a vet to make sure she is healthy enough to safely deliver puppies!

thank you. i don't know if she is or not? i will get her there. now without them getting too far into like ultrasound and xray will they be able to give me an idea of how soon with just palpation? she is still so active but i have felt the pups move so iknow that she is pregnant, and my sister in law breeds shelties so she knows about the birthing and all that but does she have to be certified in something to have puppies. and the reason she was never spayed is because we were going to breed her full blooded but never got around to it and we were going to get her spayed here soon because doc said that she was getting a little older and if we were goinig to breed her in the next year to get her fixed. but she beat us to it. she got pregnant before we got to getting her spayed.

If you can feel pups moving she is quite far along I would guess (at least 6 or 7 weeks). Palpitation can be used around day 21-25 after breeding to tell if she is pregnant. Sounds like you know she is pregnant, do you have any idea when she was bred? Did she run away, did another dog come into your yard or house, did you send her to a kennel or doggie daycare (I know it's bad but I know somebody it happened to). Try to think back and see if you can pinpoint the aprox. time... that is what the vet will want to know. In terms of her being "certified" If you were planning to breed her and she is three years old I am guessing/hoping you have done OFA hips, elbows and heart as well as CERF eye testing for her and depending on her line thyroid testing as well to make sure she does not have any genetic diseases that can be passed to her puppies. Good Luck and please keep us posted with any updates.

thank you for the information. i would have gotten her cetified in that stuff right before we bred her but like i said we wanted to when we first got her and then we got tied up with some other things and never managed to breed her. well now i don't know if she is or not. i'm not sure now if what i felt was puppies moving or not. and i have for gotten to call the vet. i think i will tomorrow. well maybe someone can tell me what they think just by her actions. this is what she is up too now..... she is forever up my butt and she has already dug a hole under my porch and she has gained like 16 lbs in just a few months. and her lower belly when she lays down on the floor on her side is getting bigger and harder. and you can squeeze the nipples and get milk out. she is still eating, and drinking and still being very active. she won't let me take her temp. and i am just not sure if she is or not? but i want to take care of her when she goes into labor if she is and i would like to know when to expect them if she is, because i don't want anything to happen to her or the puppies if something goes wrong. please someone help me besides telling me TAKE HER TO VET A.S.A.P. i know that much already tell me how to take care of her and what your ideas are if you saw this in your dog and weren't sure when and if she got pregnant?

It sounds like she is getting close (it is very rare for a bitch to go this far in a false pregnancy... but it has happened). Do you have somebody who can hold her still for you to take her temp? You can also buy an in-ear pet thermometor. Do you have a whelping box ready? Whelping kit? Emergency phone numbers? I would get these things together right away... Once you call the vet tomorrow morning they can set her up with untrasound/x-rays to help you but knowing when she was bred would be VERY helpful. Did she get out, did you see her with another dog? Any ideas when she may have been bred, even a ballpark idea? How is her diet? How is her health otherwise? Has she been wormed? Is she current on her vaccinations? Please post when you get back from the vet, keep us updated on how she is.
P.S. Have you contacted her breeder yet? She/He should be able to help you with this and even help you with tips on putting together a whelping kit, whelping and puppy care,

I'm also fairly sure the sire is unknown.
Any news on the dog? ^^;

I kinda want to know what this golden, has done to prove they are worth breeding other than being a
"full blooded" golden..... whatever that is
Certs are only part of the breeding process.... there is so muc more that goes into being a responsible breeder.
