Sorry to hear she lost the pups. Has your mother had her dog screened and cleared by OFA & CERF for genetic hip, elbow, heart and eye disease? Golden Retrievers are VERY prone to these problems and they can be crippling for the dog and emotionally and financially exhausting for a puppy owner. If you mothers dog has not been cleared or does not pass she should be spayed ASAP and NEVER BRED! If she does pass make sure to breed her to a male who is also cleared (OFA & CERF hips, elbows, heart & eyes). Having a vet say the dog is healthy is VERY different for the OFA & CERF tests and these tests very often find signs of disease that very good vets miss on a regular basis. Also if your mother dog has a heart defect, etc. having a litter could be life threatening for her. What are the reasons she wants to breed her? Is she a champion? What titles does she have? Has she gotten a CCA title showing she meets the breed standard?

I say have the dog spayed. A rescued dog really should not be bred. You do not know the history of the line the dog came from or if it is a purebred. There's enough professional breeding out there and no reason to intentionally breed mutts.

As stated already, if you need to breed this dog, you need to have the dog pass many screenings. Being a golden retriever, the dog should pass an eye exam and pass hip and elbow screenings, but even then, I don't see this as enough proof to know the dog is fit for breeding.

If she's 6 yr.s old she also to old to be bred.....A female should not be bred after the age of 5....One more year and she is a senior dog.....

I'd suggest you have the dog checked by a vet ASAP. There's a reason she had such a small litter, and the puppies died. She needs to be screened for infections, such as beta hemolytic strep and brucellosis. And she needs to be spayed. She's too old to breed, and there's absolutely no good reason to breed her again.
